New Mills House, Brampton A Handsome 19th Century Border's Farm House. Brampton Cumbria
ACCOMMODATION The bedrooms have been sympathetically converted from existing stone built cattle byres. There are two rooms, both en-suite. One double room with bath, and one twin room with shower. The rooms are situated in a pretty courtyard adjacent to the main house but separate so guests may come and go as they please. Both are on the ground floor. There is a refrigerator for the guests convenience as well as the usual tea and coffee making facilities. Dogs may come too if they are well behaved. Guests take their meals in the main house. Set in a beautiful garden it is an elegant yet comfortable home, not so imposing that you can't relax. Our aim is to make our guests feel as welcome and at home as we can. You will be offered the full Cumbrian breakfast - locally cured bacon, Cumberland sausage (made to the local butcher's old recipe), tomatoes, mushrooms, genuinely fresh free range eggs. Home made marmalade and jams with plenty of fresh coffee and tea. We cater for vegetarians too. |

SIGHTS AND SOUNDS Ninety-eight species of wild bird have, to date, been identified from the property and we regularly see deer in the surrounding fields and for those who are interested, we can arrange guided trips to see, at the appropriate times of the year, Peregrines, Black Grouse and many other species typical of this part of the country. There is a great deal of local history and natural beauty to be explored. Hadrian's Wall, a world heritage site, is within easy reach. From the west to the East it spans the green lowlands of the Solway coast and the rolling fields of Cumbria, follows the crest of Whin Sill through the Northumberland National Park, then descends from moorland and meadow into the heart of modern Tyneside. Visitor centres, museums, forts, milecastles, temples and turrets may be found along its entire length. If you wish, there are long or reasonably short walks to be found along the wall. New Mills closest point is Birdoswold. Lanercost Priory is a beautiful 12th C priory used regularly for worship and welcomes visitors. There is also a National Heritage Site showing interesting ruins next to the site. Talkin Tarn is a particularly gentle beauty spot and offers an easy walk around the lake. Row boats and mountain bikes are available for hire, should you wish. Or just take tea in the boathouse. Carlisle has its attractions. A small but beautiful cathedral. The castle and Tullie house where you may learn about the violent and marauding history of the Border reivers. The Eden Valley offers stunning scenery, peaceful lakes, forest trails, wildlife in abundance and soft red sandstone buildings. The Carlisle - Settle railway runs through the gorge. |
